Round 6 : Vikings vs Grafton Redmen
Round 6 : Vikings vs Grafton Redmen
With Viking games for Rounds 4 and 5 postponed due to weather and ground closures the Vikings First XV found themselves again travelling up the highway to play the Grafton Redmen in Grafton.
Looking for their first win of the season the Grafton team opened strongly having the Viking boys camped on their line for much of the opening 10 minutes. Match conditions made it tough going due to the state of the ground but the Viking team’s class eventually shone through and the tries materialized.
Captain Lyndon Gale crossed first soon followed by inspirational halfback Adam McCormack. Coach Hamish McCormack then crossed for a brace keeping up his challenge for leading try scorer. The match ended up 48 – 5 with Kye Alpen scoring two tries in the second period along with a 5 pointer to our Welsh front rower Tyla Murvai.
All the subs that travelled were rewarded with game time from the bench and all played well pleasing coach Hamish immensely. Game points went to Tyla Murvai (3), Lyndon Gale (2) and Kye Alpen (1).
The only other match played was the Under 14’s who travelled to Coffs to play BDC/Dorrigo. A disappointing result for these lads being overwhelmed 61 – 10 scoring two second half tries. Game points went to Aaron Puriri 3, Darwin Tink 2 and Peter Field 1.
16’s and Reggies had byes and the 18’s match postponed due to field conditions.
