Round 2: Vikings vs Coffs Snappers

Hastings Valley Vikings First XV made it two wins from two games after defeating Coffs Harbour Snappers in Coffs last Saturday.

The win was again due to the Viking pack’s dominance over their opposition although it was tougher going than their previous game. The Vikings gained ascendancy in the match with backrower Lyndon Gale crossing early followed by a fit and mobile Jeremy Segol crossing the stripe.  The loss of Tyla Murvai to a head knock and a yellow card to Kye Alpen saw the Coffs team go up a gear and they scored two quick tries to put themselves in front 14-12 but it was the last time they troubled the scorers in the match.

Ben Pursell

The injection of Ags Eukality into the game to compliment the outstanding power and thrust of Number 8 Oscar Maleli saw the tries come regularly in the second session. Hamish McCormack (2), Rohan Toft and Seb Pankiewicz all getting 5 pointers. The final score was Hastings 45 Snappers 14. Oscar was easily the best on ground and Ben Pursell had a game of which he can feel very proud in the tight exchanges while No. 10 Dave “Snowy” Kennedy stopped all the traffic that was continually sent his way along with scoring a nice try and kicking 5 conversions.

Reggies lost a close match 19-16 after having the game in their grasp. A late intercept try costing them the win. The large number of players all getting a run by coach Mark Howard was a pleasing aspect of the encounter. 18’s won 50-17 their forward dominance allowing the backs to score 7 of the 8 team tries. Cayden Briscoe again showed what a hugely talented footballer he is in this game. Coach and Player points went to Rordan McDonald, Noah Post and Will Edmonds. Under 16’s won 17 to 10 while the 14’s went down 60-7 to the competition heavyweights the Coffs Snappers Red team.
