Have fun & Get Fit with Hastings Valley Vikings
If helping your kids be more healthy and active is a goal, the Hastings Valley Vikings Rugby Club may just have a solution! The club is offering a “Play Rugby for $20” deal, which is a great incentive to have fun, while getting fit! Heath Cahalan explains that the club currently fields U14s, U16s and U18s teams, and they’re actively seeking more junior players to join the ranks.
Vikings start 2018 season with 31-20 win
HASTINGS Valley Vikings started the Dave Henry era in the best possible fashion with a 31-20 win over Kempsey at Oxley Oval on Saturday. Henry took over from former coach Mark Howard in the off-season and while the Vikings were clunky at times, they always appeared to have the match under control.
“Our blokes held their gloves up and we saw some glimpses of what we’re capable of and where we’re going as a footy team,” he said.
“With a bit of luck we would have got a couple more tries, but Kempsey are a good team who kept hanging in there and kept competing.”
Fiona McCormack,president for season 2018
One of the best-known surnames around Mid North Coast rugby circles will take the reins of the Vikings after former president Chris Trutwein stepped down on March 5.
It will be the first time in the club’s history a female will run the club, but she doesn’t have any grand plans for season 2018.
“My family have been there since the beginning and we always joke that we’ve got green, black and yellow blood running through our veins,” she said.
“It’s a family for us. It’s not just a rugby club.”
New Coach for 2018 Season
DAVE Henry has been entrusted with the job of repairing Hastings Valley Vikings’ broken hearts. With daughter Michellie running around for the club’s female side the Helgas last season, it was the logical choice for Henry to take charge of the first grade side.
And he will do so with a team still recovering from a 36-35 grand final loss that has burned all off season.
With a background in rugby league, Henry admits he isn’t a traditional rugby union coach, but is looking forward to bringing some new ideas to the club.
