Round 12: Under 16’s Vikings vs Coffs Snappers

Under clear winter skies, the under 16’s Vikings travelled to Coffs to take on the Snappers. With only a few rounds left of the ordinary season, both teams were seeking to seal up a top 2 position on the ladder, so they had plenty to play for.

Consistent with previous battles between these rivals, both forward packs came out strongly. An early try to both teams kept the first half tight, and with their noses in front, the Vikings went into halftime knowing the second 30 minute half would be really tough.

In what has become an all too familiar scenario the Vikings had only one reserve on the bench for the match and with hard hitting Riley Hollis injured during the match, they were very grateful to both Danny Kable and Tana Marino who made themselves available as visitors. to come off the bench and reconnect with their Viking mates from previous seasons for the game.

A run away try by Felix Hurdle midway through the second half had the Vikings one step closer to the win, but as the end of the game drew near the Snappers’ forwards lifted and true to their never say die reputation, scored a late try to move 2 points ahead, a lead they defended to the final whistle.

With a final score of 19-17, this close loss will not be forgotten by the young Vikings.
Coaches’ points went to Seth Martin-3, Alex Zavone-2, Joe Post -1, with the Players Player votes being split between Danny Kable and Felix Hurdle.
