Round 10: Vikings vs SCU Marlins

Under cloudy skies the Vikings travelled to Coffs to take on the Marlin side at their new home ground. An early Viking try under the posts to flanker Lyndon Gale made many think the Viking team was in for an easy afternoon. This was not to be the case. Both teams struggled to maintain quality possession and although the Viking team bombed a number of scoring chances the teams went into halftime with the close score of 7 – 0.

Centre Harry Sargent increased the lead to 14-0 fifteen minutes into the second half finishing one of the few Viking backline plays. Number 8 Oscar Maleli powered over 10 minutes later then Ags went on a long run to the tryline to secure the bonus point fourth try. Flyhalf Snowy Kennedy made it five from five with the boot late in the half with a successful penalty making the final score 31-0.

This match was by no means the Vikings best performance but the zero scoreline of the opposition will surely please coach Hamish. Adam McCormack showed many of the skills in his bag of tricks and was the best on field.

Ags continued his great recent form proving to be a handful for the Marlin players while new fullback Blake Goodridge, recently returned from the USA, had a match full of promise. His tackling and kicking game went a long way to keeping the Marlin boys to zero points.

Reggies won 32 – 7 overpowering the Marlin team in the later stages of a match highlighted by the two try effort of new recruit Ben Offereins.

The Viking team back up against Marlins again this Tuesday evening under lights at Oxley Oval in the postponed Round 4 match. Kickoff is 7.15pm.
