Round 12: Vikings vs Coffs Snappers
Another week and another win for the Vikings First XV team, this week accounting for Coffs Snappers 54-32. Ags continued his purple patch of form but he had great support from many in the team. In the pack Ben Pursell won much lineout ball, Charlie Freeman tackled all day and Oscar showed power and determination with his menacing runs.
The backline ran freely in the match, the team relying less on their usual forward power game. Last year’s leading try scorer Seb Pankiewicz, who has been experiencing a try drought in the past few weeks, scored an absolute screamer showing, pace and evasive skills on a 70 metre run for the try of the match. Harry Sargent continued to make a good fist of his shift to centre while Matt Fieldsend’s crash ball in the middle always had the Coffs team back peddling. Snowy Kennedy had another fine showing with the boot kicking 7 out of 8 many from difficult positions. The team’s confidence is sky high knowing that every try is 7 points no matter where it is scored.
Blake Goodridge scored two of the Vikings 8 tries. He started at fullback but finished at half where he sparked the running game of his backline and helped himself to his brace of tries.
The obvious downside to the match was having 32 points put on them by the Coffs team. Snappers were up 8 nil early and although the Viking boys were always in control of the match coach Hamish will need to get the tackling bags out at training during the week.
Reggies won a dour match 34-13 the highlights a second hat trick of tries in two weeks to Luke Banks and the tenacious tackling of Club President Dave Barnes who has probably put his move to Golden Oldies off for one more season. 18’s beat an undermanned Coffs team 57-12 to consolidate their high position on the ladder while Coffs were successful in both the 16’s and 14’s matches.
